Is there an age requirement to volunteer?
YES. The minimum age to volunteer on your own is 15 years old. Individuals 14 years old and younger must be accompanied by their legal parent or guardian. Any other specific age requirements will be listed with the volunteer opportunity.
Is there an application and background check process?
YES. To be a volunteer with the Naperville Park District, you must complete the online application and required DCFS Background Check. In this process, volunteers will complete a volunteer participant waiver, select an area of interest and submit authorization to complete a DCFS Background Check.
Can I just show up to a volunteer opportunity?
NO. For all program and special event volunteer opportunities, individuals/groups MUST complete the required volunteer application and background check at least two weeks prior to the volunteer opportunity to be considered for volunteering.
and YES. If you're interested in one of our Nature Champion Volunteer Days, you're welcome to show up onsite without signing up in advance. However, if you plan to volunteer multiple days, it is recommended to complete the required volunteer application and background check at least two weeks prior to the next volunteer opportunity.
Can someone sign off on my volunteer hours for proof of service to provide at school?
YES. Volunteers can request for documentation of their hours. Documentation may include but not limited to confirmation via email, a signed letter on Naperville Park District Letterhead, or on a school-provided document.
