The area in Brighton Ridge Park dedicated to this initiative is located in the detention basin. Detention basins gather stormwater and run-off from the neighborhood and hold it until the storm system can take on the extra water. These areas tend to be consistently wet and difficult to maintain. Native vegetation is able to absorb the water and filter out pesticides, herbicides, etc. They also offer a chance for people to learn and experience plants that are native to this area while providing habitat and pollen for native insects. The remaining portions of the site will continue to be as they are now.

This project was part of our community outreach initiative that was communicated with residents on July 26, 2021.
