Bailey Hobson Woods Park - Pond Dredging and Shoreline Restoration

The retention pond in Bailey Hobson Woods Park is in need of maintenance. Sediment has built up in the pond and needs to be removed for the health and function of the pond, which serves as a stormwater facility. In 2021, the Naperville Park District contracted with an engineering firm to aid in the creation of construction documents and permitting for the dredging and shoreline restoration initiative.

The sidewalk that extends over the gabion dam and stream will be removed due to the deterioration of the concrete. This will cause the existing path of desire along the south side of the pond to be relocated to the north. As part of the project, the shoreline around the pond will be stabilized and planted with native vegetation to reduce siltation and the amount of offsite fertilizers and pesticides entering the pond. This project is scheduled to commence in summer, as weather permits, with the intent to reach substantial completion in fall.

Following this work, a right-of-way sidewalk extension along Hobson Mill Drive is planned to be installed. The Bailey Hobson Woods Park ID sign will also be relocated to the north in order to designate the new park access point.
