A Message from the Executive Director - Summer 2022

Dear Friends of the Naperville Park District:

This year, perhaps more than ever, we look forward to summer in the Midwest. Once again, we can enjoy a picnic in the park, throw open the windows, tend the garden, play baseball, go swimming or listen to an outdoor concert with friends and neighbors. Be sure to browse through the Naperville Park District’s Summer 2022 Program Guide for ideas and resources to help you make the most of summer and enjoy the unique recreation destinations, events and activities that we offer close to home.

I want to remind everyone that the Park District is still in need of summer staff to support the programs, services and facilities that we provide to the community. Please help spread the word that a variety of summer positions are still open and that interested applicants may apply online at Naperville Park District offers a friendly work environment, flexible hours, competitive pay and an opportunity to be part of its mission to promote a healthy community. Some of the available positions include golf course staff, camp counselors, Riverwalk Café and Centennial Beach attendants, park maintenance staff, Centennial Beach lifeguards and custodial assistants.

Centennial Beach is filled and ready to open for the season beginning Memorial Day weekend. We encourage anyone who plans to visit the Beach more than a few times this summer to purchase a Beach membership at the preseason rate, which is available through May 30. Children love the sandy beach and there are 4 acres of lawn for seating and nearly 2 acres of water to explore. Favorite Beach amenities include a zero depth entry with spray features, a large deep end, lap lanes, diving boards, a shallow end slide and Centennial Grill with picnic tables nearby.

The Paddleboat Quarry also offers water recreation just across the Riverwalk from Centennial Beach. Rent a paddleboat, kayak or paddleboard and relish being out on the water, feeling as if you are miles away, even while close to the downtown area. After your watercraft ride, you can stop at the nearby Riverwalk Café for snacks and beverages to enjoy on the patio overlooking the Paddleboat Quarry.

While making summer plans for your family, check the Park District’s summer camp schedule, included in the Summer Program Guide. Full-day and half-day traditional day camps are available at Frontier Sports Complex and Seager Park, as well as a variety of special-interest camps for kids, from preschool through high school, at locations throughout the community.

Summer is a great time to recharge your fitness routine by moving your activities outdoors. The Park District provides nearly 80 miles of trails for walking, running or bicycling. As highlighted by the summer infographic, walking outdoors has many health benefits. Additionally, fitness equipment at Nike Sports Complex, Meadow Glens Park, Commissioners Park and Wolf’s Crossing Community Park helps enhance walking or running with a range of body-weight exercises. The District’s first Fitness Court will be installed this summer, providing a new, dynamic circuit-training system designed for use by teens and adults. The Fitness Court will be located adjacent to the playground and splash pad at the 95th Street Community Plaza on the north side of Frontier Sports Complex. Look for fitness classes, such as FIT45, Yoga and Zumba to be offered outdoors at the Fitness Court or in our other parks this summer.

We are grateful to our volunteers and sponsors for their support that allows the Naperville Park District to host free summer concerts and other events for the community, including the Frontier Kite Fly, Concerts in Your Park, Children’s Lunch Hour Entertainment, A Night at the Movies and more. View our special event schedules at and plan to set aside time to enjoy these outdoor gatherings with friends, neighbors and family.

Wishing you a happy and healthy summer!
