Rothermel Family Skate Facility Set to Open December 21

The Naperville Park District's newly-renovated Rothermel Family Skate Facility, formerly known as Centennial Park Skate Facility, is set to open to the public on Thursday, December 21.

Funding for this project was provided, in part, by a $120,000 grant from the Rothermel Family Fund of DuPage Foundation. As a provision of the grant, the Naperville Park District named the new skate facility the "Rothermel Family Skate Facility." Project construction began in early July after the Park District identified that the equipment at Centennial Park Skate Facility needed replacement due to typical wear and tear.

The new design features an in-ground concrete skate park with a "bowl" design, enhanced accessibility, and many fun features for skaters of all ages and abilities. In contrast to Frontier Skate Park, which is more typical of a street-style skate park due to its above-ground ramps, this new installation diversifies the Park District's offerings to skaters.

This is the second grant given to the Naperville Park District by the Rothermel Family Fund of DuPage Foundation. In Spring of 2023, the Park District opened six new pickleball courts on the east side of Frontier Sports Complex after receiving a grant totaling $100,000.

"The Naperville Park District is incredibly grateful for the Rothermel family's generosity," said Executive Director Brad Wilson. "Their continued support demonstrates their belief in the importance of community recreation opportunities, which are well aligned with the Park District's mission."

The skate facility is open from 8:00 a.m. - sunset. Please note that Park District skate facilities operate year-round, weather-depending. The facilities will close for snow, ice or extreme wet conditions.
