Ribbon Cutting Set for Rothermel Family Pickleball Courts on June 13

Tuesday, June 6, 2023

Naperville Park District invites the community to a ribbon-cutting event at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13 at Frontier Sports Complex, 3415 Book Road, to celebrate the opening of the Rothermel Family Pickleball Courts. The six new pickleball courts were recently installed on the east side of Frontier Sports Complex adjacent to the parking lot. Funding for this project was provided, in part, by a $100,000 grant from the Rothermel Family Fund of DuPage Foundation.

The event will begin with comments from Park District officials and guests, followed by a ribbon-cutting and photo opportunities. Attendees unfamiliar with pickleball can watch how the game is played and pickleball players can take a turn on the new courts.

"We are grateful to the Rothermel family for their generosity in supporting these new courts," said Executive Director Brad Wilson. "Pickleball is a great game for all ages and we are glad to be able to provide places to play in parks across the community."

Pickleball first came to the Naperville Park District in 2012 when one of the tennis courts at DuPage River Sports Complex was lined for pickleball as well as tennis. In 2016, Fort Hill Activity Center opened with the District's first indoor courts in the multipurpose gymnasiums, providing a year-round location for pickleball. With the addition of the six new courts at Frontier Sports Complex, the District now has 18 dedicated pickleball courts outdoors, and several other courts that are lined for both tennis and pickleball.
