ParkTalk Blog – New Programs Debuting for Autumn 2026!
Tuesday, August 4, 2026
Naperville Park District offers a wide variety of programs for all ages and diverse interests. More than 8,500 recreational classes, athletic teams, special events and performances are offered annually, providing community members with the opportunity to discover new passions or participate in something they already love. Every quarter, new programs are added to the seasonal Program Guide to help keep offerings fresh and fun.
Several of the new programs that are added each season begin as community member recommendations made through the New Program Request Form. This online form on the Park District’s website provides anyone with the opportunity to submit program ideas for the District to consider offering in future seasons. Once the Park District receives the program request, staff review it to determine whether the program aligns with the District’s mission, vision and core values. If the program is already offered, staff will consider reevaluating the existing program and potentially revamp it to meet current recreation trends. Additionally, Program Managers often develop new program ideas to fill a need or respond to an emerging recreation trend.
The 2026 Autumn Program Guide is available exclusively on the Park District’s website, and program registration is underway. The Program Guide highlights exciting fall events and a wide variety of programs for all ages. Here are details on some new programs that community members can enjoy this fall:
Tinkering Lab | Ages 4-5
Critical thinking is imperative for young, developing brains. Children need to be able to make sense of information, analyze situations, and compare and contrast at an early age. This new Early Childhood program, Tinkering Lab, is designed to address these skills. Emphasizing the Park District’s philosophy of learning through play, Tinkering Lab allows children to explore, create, build and problem-solve using a variety of tools and materials. Curiosity is at the center of this program as children are encouraged to work with their peers on different projects. Activities may include building structures, learning about cause and effect, and completing cooperative challenges with other participants. This program highlights the importance of creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking while nurturing a love for learning and exploration.
Junior High and High School 3v3 Leagues | Ages 11-13/14-17
The love for basketball can often leave athletes wanting more gametime on the court after the clock hits zero, and these new Friday evening 3v3 leagues are designed for those dedicated players. Hosted at Hudson Sportsplex in Naperville, the Junior High and High School 3v3 Basketball Leagues provide players with more gametime reps, increased decision-making opportunities, and a fun, competitive environment. These programs are perfect for the diehard basketball players looking to play as many games as possible and develop their skills on the court. Standings and weekly schedules will be provided to participants.
Youth Volleyball Leagues | Grade 3-8
Similar to the new 3v3 basketball leagues, new youth volleyball leagues will be offered at Hudson Sportsplex beginning this fall. This program is a great opportunity for players to learn the fundamentals of volleyball in a recreational setting or for experienced players who want to sharpen their skills. Each program, held on Sunday mornings, will begin with 40 minutes of practice and instruction followed by match play for the final 35 minutes. These leagues emphasize positive coaching and provide a learning environment focused on improving the skills of each individual player so they may continue to play at a high level on club teams or at school. Leagues are divided up into grade levels: 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, and 7th/8th grade. The 3rd/4th grade league is co-ed while the other levels are girls-only leagues.
Home Safety | Ages 8-11
As children get older, their parents begin to trust them to stay home by themselves more often. While it is important for kids to become independent and take on greater responsibilities, it is crucial they also know what to do in case of an emergency. The Home Safety program aims to teach children and preteens the necessary skills to stay safe when they are home alone. These one-hour workshops, held on Saturday, September 12 and October 10, will cover emergency scenarios that may arise at home, including fire prevention, water and electrical safety, precautions while using the Internet, and home security. Situational awareness is important for all ages, but this program is the perfect introduction to these concepts, and it can help protect your child from these potential risks.
The Naperville Park District offers a variety of programs each season for many interests and age groups. To register for other programs, presentations, trips and more, view the 2026 Autumn Program Guide at www.napervilleparks.org/programguides.
