Park Board Approves Resolution to Name Future Park “Plank Road Park”

Tuesday, December 16, 2025

At the December 11, 2025 meeting, the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to name a new neighborhood park “Plank Road Park.” In accordance with Park District policies, the passing of the resolution begins a 60-day period of consideration to receive community input prior to taking formal action of naming the park.

A 0.62-acre parcel is proposed to be donated to the Naperville Park District as part of The Claire development. A new neighborhood park with a playground, site furnishings and landscaping will be constructed sometime within the next couple of years.

The suggested name “Plank Road Park” is based on the historical significance of the wooden plank road that ran along Ogden Avenue through Naperville, allowing farmers and others to travel to and from Chicago by carriage or wagon. The future park will incorporate the historical theme into the design of park structures and furnishings. It is expected to be the District’s 141st park.
