Park District’s Redesigned Website Includes Customizable Accessibility Features

Friday, February 24, 2023

Naperville Park District launched a redesigned website in late 2022 that was developed using Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The new website also includes an Accessibility Statement that affirms the District's commitment to this core aspect and highlights accessible features of the website as well as accessibility throughout the Park District's facilities and programs.

One of the new features of the website is an AI-powered accessibility tool that makes adjustments to the appearance of images, content or code, based on the needs of the user and their selections from a menu of options. A blue icon appears at the bottom right-hand corner of each webpage that users can click to reveal a menu of options; some of the options include adjustments that are seizure safe, ADHD friendly, or helpful for those who are visually impaired, have cognitive disabilities or require assistance with keyboard navigation.

"Ensuring enhanced accessibility for users was a priority in developing the new napervilleparks.org website," explained Sameera Luthman, director of marketing and communications. "Our staff will conduct periodic audits of our website to ensure that it remains easily navigable and user-friendly for individuals of all abilities while providing a helpful and engaging experience for everyone."
