Over 600 Pieces of Used Sports Equipment Donated in the First-Ever Great Gear Swap

Naperville Park District, in partnership with Accelerated Climate Solutions, hosted the first Great Gear Swap and sale from Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 20. Throughout the week, the community donated their unwanted and gently used sports equipment in an effort to keep it out of landfills.

In total, 616 pieces of equipment were donated and 309 of those items were purchased during the Swap/Sale event on Friday, March 20. A portion of the revenue from purchases went to support the Park District’s Fee Assistance Program to benefit residents in need and provide them with access to recreation opportunities. Another 260 items were donated to Soccer Gear for Zambia, Zeman’s Kicks for Kids and the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. The remaining items will be stored by Accelerated Climate Solutions for future swaps. The Naperville Park District thanks community members who participated in the inaugural event.
