Nike Sports Complex Playground to be Resurfaced in August

Friday, June 9, 2023

On Thursday, June 8, the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners approved a contract to replace the surface of the playground at Nike Sports Complex later this summer. The playground will be closed temporarily for the project and details will be posted at when the schedule is determined.

The playground at Nike Sports Complex was constructed in 2011 with poured-in-place rubberized surfacing. The surface has worn and is in need of replacement at this time. However, the play equipment is not scheduled for replacement until 2026. The Park District plans to install new, poured-in-place or synthetic turf surfacing with the new play equipment, but in the meantime, will replace the worn surface with engineered wood fiber. Engineered wood fiber costs less than rubberized surfacing and can be reused at another playground, whereas poured-in-place surfacing cannot be reused once installed.
