Naperville Park District Winter Weather Procedures

Tuesday, January 9, 2024

With the arrival of winter weather, Naperville Park District reminds residents of the District's resources for updates on weather-related cancellation and closures.

Program cancellations or facility closures are dependent upon weather conditions and facility accessibility. Residents are encouraged to visit the Cancellation & Closures tab on the Park District website, or directly navigate to www.napervilleparks.org/cancellations to view updated information. Additionally, individuals can conveniently receive weather cancellation or facility closure information via text or email or through the Rainout Line app, which can be downloaded for iPhone or Android devices.

Please note that specific amenities may close due to significant snowfall. These include tennis and pickleball courts and synthetic turf fields. These areas will reopen once the surfaces are clear and ready to use again. For information on the District's snow-clearing procedures, visit: www.napervilleparks.org/snowclearing.

Heavier snowfalls mean that the Park District sled hills will be open for use. Hills are open when there are two or more inches of snow with no visible grass.

With much colder weather predicted over the course of the next week, District staff is preparing the ice rinks. However, several days of below freezing temperatures are needed in order for the ice-making process to begin. Residents can easily identify when skating rinks are open or closed through the Park District's red flag/green flag system. A red flag indicates that the rink is not open, while a green flag communicates that the rink is open for use.
