Naperville Park District Seeking Feedback Regarding Centennial Park Detention Basin

Monday, April 7, 2025

The Naperville Park District is conducting an online questionnaire to gather community input on the public’s interest and use of the outdoor ice rinks and sand volleyball courts offered in the stormwater detention basin at Centennial Park, located at 500 W. Jackson Avenue. The questionnaire will be available on the District’s website from Monday, April 7 to Friday, April 25.

The stormwater detention basin is used to accommodate sand volleyball courts during the spring and summer and natural ice rinks during the winter. However, the Park District has identified several challenges that affect the operations and maintenance of the facility and recreational amenities. Since the sand volleyball courts are located at the bottom of a detention basin, rain events limit access to the public. Additionally, the natural ice rinks have been minimally available due to the fact that consistently cold temperatures – which are needed – have not materialized.

Feedback gathered from the questionnaire will help the Park District evaluate interest in these seasonal amenities and future plans for the site.
