Naperville Park District Recognizes its Volunteers For National Volunteer Week
Monday, April 8, 2024
For National Volunteer Week, which is April 21-27, 2024, the Naperville Park District acknowledges all its volunteers, with a special thanks to the student volunteers from Naperville Central, Naperville North and Neuqua Valley high schools who have demonstrated exceptional initiative volunteering for the benefit of their community.
Two student leaders from Naperville North High School created a volunteer opportunity for members of their National Honors Society chapter. Volunteers will clean up litter and debris at Sindt Woods and Wil-O-Way Commons, as well as spread native seed bombs in natural areas. In addition, two Neuqua Valley High School students took interest in their neighborhood park, Brook Prairie, by assisting Naperville Park District staff with debris clean-up, litter pick-up and seeding specific areas for new native species. At Winding Creek Pond, a Naperville Central student and their mother volunteered to return to beautify the pond, park trails and surrounding green space, continuing their service to the community after previously volunteering with their Girl Scout troop.
"It's amazing seeing young individuals with a drive to give back to the community," said Volunteer and Events Manager Becca Krzyszkowski. "We are incredibly grateful to anyone who volunteers their time to improve our parks, programs, and events throughout the year."
There are special opportunities that individuals and groups can volunteer for to kick off National Volunteer Week on Saturday, April 20:
. A National Volunteer Week Event will be held from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Volunteers will be assisting at different parks and facilities throughout Naperville with basic park maintenance tasks, such as mulching, planting and weeding. For more details on this event, email Becca Krzyszkowski directly at rkrzyszkowski@napervilleparks.org.
. The Naperville Park District's annual Shredding Event will take place in the Centennial Beach parking lot from 8:00 a.m.-11:00a.m. Volunteers will assist with traffic control, greeting participants and unloading boxes of paper into the truck until filled.
