Naperville Park District Recognizes National Sportsmanship Day on Tuesday, March 4
Monday, March 3, 2025
National Sportsmanship Day 2025, which was established by the International Sports Institute in 1991, is Tuesday, March 4. National Sportsmanship Day is held annually on the first Tuesday of March with the goal of educating athletes, coaches, spectators and referees about the importance of sportsmanship, as well as fostering standards for the current and future generation of athletes. The Naperville Park District remains committed to promoting good sportsmanship in its programs by reminding everyone to demonstrate and encourage fair play, good etiquette, and sound character.
At its February 27, 2020 meeting, the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners first approved a resolution to promote the importance of good sportsmanship District-wide through the following actions:
- Observe National Sportsmanship Day annually on the first Tuesday of March.
- Remind participants, coaches, parents and spectators of the District’s expectations related to conduct and good sportsmanship through training, program materials and a variety of media.
- Create awareness in the community of the District’s emphasis on good sportsmanship and its benefits for everyone.
Participants in the District’s athletic programs learn and practice athletic skills, social skills, and experience teamwork and good sportsmanship. The Naperville Park District continues to demonstrate its commitment to promoting good sportsmanship across its youth and adult athletic programs as it supports the Park District’s core value of Personal Growth and Enrichment.
