Thursday, October 24, 2024
Naperville Community Television (NCTV17) has been named Illinois Parks’ Top Journalist for 2024 by the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD). NCTV17 was nominated by the Naperville Park District and will receive an award at the 2024 IAPD Best of the Best Awards Gala on Friday, October 25.
Naperville Park District nominated NCTV17 for Illinois Parks’ Top Journalist honors for its commitment to recognizing the importance of providing Park District news to Naperville residents. Local journalism maintains an important role in promoting local culture, civic engagement, and a strong sense of community and NCTV17 fulfills this aspect, not only for the Park District, but across the community.
Additionally, NCTV17 regularly sends reporters to cover District events such as Park Board meetings, facility open houses and ribbon-cutting ceremonies for Park District facilities. NCTV17’s goal is to deliver community-centered journalism, and their relationship with the Park District exemplifies the vitality of hyperlocal news in an age where the mass media landscape shares news for a broader audience.
“The Park District relies on local journalists to promote the agency’s mission, and NCTV17 has been an exceptional partner in the efforts to expand our outreach to the community,” said Executive Director Brad Wilson. “NCTV17 continues to be a trusted news outlet for Naperville residents, the Park District and many other community organizations and businesses.”
The Illinois Parks’ Top Journalist Award is one of 10 awards given by the IAPD every year. It recognizes a print, radio and television medium that has provided responsible and comprehensive coverage of Illinois park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation and special recreation agencies.
