Centennial Park Natural Ice Rinks Delayed Due to Ice Formation Challenges

Tuesday, December 16, 2025

We are currently experiencing challenges opening the natural ice-skating rinks at Centennial Park. The issue is related to the rink basin not holding water sufficiently. While the surface layer is freezing, the water underneath is infiltrating the ground and storm sewer system before freezing solid. This creates air pockets and unstable ice conditions, which are not safe for skating. Staff continue to work on addressing the issue, but at this time the ice has not frozen to the depth needed to safely open the rinks.
