Shoreline Restoration Project
Project Background. Invasive and undesirable trees and plants have grown and spread along the shoreline of the creek that runs through Stanford Meadows. The woody root systems of these trees and plants do not hold soil in place, rather, they allow erosion of the soil into the creek. The creek gathers stormwater from the surrounding neighborhood and flows into the retention pond at Hunter’s Woods, the adjacent park. Over the years, sediment from the creek has been building up in the pond and causing water quality issues.
Project Description and Timeline. The Naperville Park District is partnering with DuPage County Stormwater Management Department and its contractor to stabilize the banks of the creek and to plant native vegetation that will reduce future erosion. The 2024 project began with the removal of invasive and poor quality trees and plants and was followed by shoreline stabilization and the planting of native vegetation. Sidewalk repair and additional tree planting is proposed for fall of 2024. This work is taking place in the section of the creek that is east of Keim Drive, as shown on the map below. The Naperville Park District completed the section of creek west of Keim Drive in 2023.
