DuPage River Park Woodland Restoration Project

Project Overview
The Naperville Park District is conducting a woodland restoration project at DuPage River Park, located at 808 Royce Road, which will include the removal of declining trees and the replanting of native species of trees. This multi-phased project is planned to begin in spring 2025 and continue for future years. A majority of the work in the initial phases will take place along Royce Road between Braddock Drive and Barkdoll Road. A map of the project area is included below:

Tree removals were performed in 2023 and 2024 in areas A, B, and C after multiple fungal diseases infected the trees. The Park District will remove the remaining infected trees in those areas in spring 2025, and replanting could begin as soon as late spring 2025. The restoration of areas D, E, and F are planned for future years. Naperville Park District plans to install more than 100 woodland and understory trees to recreate a beautiful, native forest canopy.

The various tree species Naperville Park District will replant at DuPage River Park include:
·         Various Oak species (Bur, Red, and White Oak)
·         Redbud
·         American Hornbeam
·         Blackhaw Viburnum
·         Sugar Maple
·         Eastern Hemlock
·         Common Witch Hazel

Supported by a Generous Community Donation
The DuPage River Park woodland restoration project is being funded, in part, through a generous donation made by Naperville residents, Shuba and Subramanian Iyer. Their family recognizes the importance of caring for the environment, and they wanted to make a meaningful impact in that regard in the community. Shuba and Subramanian are supporting this project with a $15,000 donation in 2025, with additional financial gifts planned to assist with funding plantings in future years. Their donations will help accelerate the overall pace of the restoration project and bring about positive environmental changes to DuPage River Park.
