Naperville Park District to Offer Free Summer Events

Farmers Market, Night at the Movies and Rock the Hill returning in 2019

As we look forward to the summer weather which we hope is just a few weeks away, it’s time to mark your calendars with the Naperville Park District’s free, outdoor concerts and events.

The 13th annual Frontier Kite Fly Festival and Kick Off to Summer, presented by The Branch, will be held at Frontier Sports Complex, located at 3380 Cedar Glade Drive on Sunday, June 2 from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. A free event, the Kite Fly Festival offers fun for all ages and a chance to view gigantic kites flown by kite enthusiasts from Chicago Kite. Participants also can practice flying their own kites. Other activities include free, live music, unlimited inflatable jumping for $5, and activities provided by KidsMatter for teens. Families are encouraged to enjoy a relaxing day at the park, and to bring a picnic lunch or purchase food from a variety of food trucks on site.

After a successful first season in 2018, Naperville Park District and the 95th Street Library are partnering again to host the 95th Street Farmers Market, presented by FBC Remodel, offering locally grown fruits and vegetables and homemade breads, jams and other items. The Market will be held on Thursdays from 3:00-7:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the 95th Street Library, located at 3015 Cedar Glade Drive in Naperville. The Market opens June 6 and continues through September 26.

Also returning after its 2018 debut is A Night at the Movies, a series of family-friendly movies in the park. Movies will begin at 8:30 p.m. for all dates except September 13, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. Movies, dates and locations are as follows:

  • June 7 – “Christopher Robin” – Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Ave.
  • July 12 – “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” – Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Ave.
  • July 26 – “Incredibles 2” – Frontier Sports Complex, east side, 3415 Book Rd.
  • August 9 – “Ant-Man and the Wasp” – Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Ave.
  • September 13 – “Mary Poppins Returns” – Frontier Sports Complex, east side, 3415 Book Rd.

 Additionally, Rock the Hill, is returning in 2019 with two free concerts at Rotary Hill on Friday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m.: The Wayouts on June 21 and OMT on August 2.

The Concerts in Your Park series bring family-friendly music to different parks throughout the community on Sunday evenings at 7:00 p.m. except for the July 18 concert, which will be held on Thursday evening. Concert locations and music styles were selected based on the results of online voting by residents earlier this year. The 2019 schedule is as follows:

June 9 – Soda at Queensbury Greens, 1520 Brookdale Rd.

June 23 – Ethan Bell Band at Gartner Park, 524 W. Gartner Rd.

June 30 – Shout Out at White Eagle Park, 3140 White Eagle Dr.

July 14 – The Hat Guys at Century Farms Park, 715 Sigmund Rd.

July 18 – Five Guys Named Moe at A. George Pradel Park, 4519 Pradel Dr.

July 28 – Off the Charts at Walnut Ridge Park, 2304 Keim Dr.

Children’s Lunch Hour Entertainment, presented by Living Well Dental Group, provides fun, interactive shows for kids and their families on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. New this summer, a children’s book reading will begin at 11:20 a.m. before each show, provided by Sourcebooks, a Naperville publishing company.  Locations alternate between the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, located west of Centennial Beach at 912 Sindt Ct., and Frontier Sports Complex, located at 3415 Book Rd. The Millennium Carillon will present its annual Summer Recital Series on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. from June 4-August 20. Carillonneurs from Naperville and from all around the world will perform, while audiences are invited to picnic on the lawn and enjoy the free music. The schedule of carillonneurs is as follows:
