Donor Advised Funds

MAKE A GRANT TO THE PARK DISTRICT THROUGH A DONOR ADVISED FUND

As a local government agency, Naperville Park District is eligible to receive grants from donor advised funds when the purpose is for the public good per IRS Publication 526, page 2, Types of Qualified Organizations, section 5.  Examples include contributing toward a new park facility or supporting a program or activity, such as our Fee Assistance Program or maintaining natural areas in parks.

For those who already have a donor advised fund:
You can help make possible a new park amenity for the whole community to enjoy. Grants from donor advised funds have enabled the Park District to add new pickleball courts to Frontier Sports Complex and to plan a new pavilion to host outdoor classes at Knoch Knolls Park. Grants can range from under $100 to $200,000 or more and can support a wide range of improvements or initiatives. Park District staff members are happy to talk with you about an idea that you may have and can guide you through the process. Contact Finance Director Sue Stanish at 630-848-3514 or sstanish@napervilleparks.org to get started.

For those interested in establishing a donor advised fund:
Donor advised funds can be used to give to charitable causes during one's lifetime and also in estate planning. They are easy to open and provide a cost-effective way to give to causes you care about. Donor advised funds are provided by a variety of organizations:

Community Foundations:  DuPage Foundation offers donor advised funds and has worked with the Naperville Park District to facilitate grants made to the District from these funds. They offer advice about where and when to give and have knowledge of many community nonprofits and their needs. A deposit of $25,000 is required to establish a fund.

National: Examples include Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, and Bank of America Charitable Gift Fund. Some of these funds offer a low entry level (starting with less than $1,000) and generally do not offer advice on where and how often to give out of the fund.

A donor advised fund allows you to:

·         Streamline giving and facilitate record keeping
·         Bundle giving into one or two years for tax purposes
·         Donate complex assets
·         Teach children about giving
·         Build a charitable legacy
·         Give anonymously if desired (you can create a name other than your family name for your account)
