Quotes from the Episode
What makes the facility such an important part of the community?
It’s a multigenerational facility. We have members of all ages and all abilities. It’s also a time for people to connect with their community. I also think we offer some unique things by having the Rec and Roll, from having WDSRA (Western DuPage Special Recreation Association) a second site there, and we have NeuroFLX. – Sue Buziecki
We have program participants as young as 2-3 years old, and we have middle schoolers through people at age 90 coming in for fitness programs and our fitness center, so you’re getting people of all ages gathering at the same place, and it’s really nice to see the interactions of those groups in one facility. – Kristina McGrath
What is Fort Hill Activity Center’s role in supporting the community’s health and wellness?
We offer some wellness seminars, we have the ability for the public to still come in without purchasing a membership, and then personal training. You’re seeing the trend of people taking their health seriously for longevity purposes. – Sue Buziecki
Longevity is such a big buzzword in the health industry right now. It’s not just about getting big and strong or being able to run a 10K or a marathon, it’s really about “What can I do today to make sure I can do the things I want to do in my 60s or 70s?” That’s the goal. You want to feel good for as long as possible. – Kristina McGrath
How is the Park District celebrating Fort Hill Activity Center’s 10th anniversary?
We are having a free event on August 22 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. We’re going to have some free classes you can attend, an A.I. photobooth, open gym gymnastics, and indoor track will be free as well. – Sue Buziecki
We’re going to have Zumba in the gym at 9:00 a.m., Body Jam in the gym at 10:05 a.m., and then we’ll have a yoga class in Studio D at 10:45 a.m. All of those classes are open to the public, so people are welcome to come in and check out some of our instructors! – Kristina McGrath
